Why it works

Draven's attacks hit random enemies in range and apply bleeds worth 150/225 physical damage over 12 seconds; his cast throws axes at the enemy with the most bleeds and deals the remaining bleed damage instantly. His unique trait, Bounty Seeker, gives him bounties with rewards, so a well-itemized Draven also pays you back over the game. Maokai and Ivern scale during combat – Maokai launches saplings as he blocks damage and heals for part of his missing HP, while Ivern shields two allies and boosts their damage. Amumu and Kennen add Inferno, which gives the board built-in anti-heal, and Ezreal deals the damage while you wait for the 5-costs.

Stage 2
Only commit to this comp from a strong win streak with plenty of gold. Slam items aimed at Draven (Guinsoo's Rageblade, Kraken's Fury, Deathblade) and give them to your early carries. Good openers are Rengar, Blossom, Rapidfire, Hunter or Elderwood units.

Stage 3
Keep the streak going. With an econ augment you can reach level 7 before 3-3; without one, level 5 aggressively around the carousel and follow a normal curve. Ezreal is a solid AD item holder until Draven arrives.

Stage 4
Start saving gold – you can lose some rounds as long as your HP allows it. If you are losing too much HP, roll down at level 8 to stabilise instead.

Stage 5
Go to level 9 at the end of stage 4 or by 5-2 and roll for Draven, Maokai and Ivern. Play Maokai and Ivern as soon as you find them, because they get stronger over time. At level 10, add Elderwood Lux.

When to pivot

If you can't protect your HP, stay at level 8 and stabilise with your 4-costs. You can also play a version that replaces Ezreal, Gnar and Alistar with Elder Dragon and Sentinel; in that case, give the Alpha Mark to Elder Dragon for the execute. If Draven doesn't show up, Morgana can take his place. Until Maokai is upgraded or stacked, use Taric or Amumu as the main tank.

Tips

Choose Draven bounties that reward damage with gold, and skip the one that asks for 10,000 damage in a single round – it's easy to get stuck on it.
Pair Taric with Maokai. Draven and Ezreal go in the right back corner, Ivern in the left one.
Put a Stonebark Tree in the front-left corner and the Lifebloom in the back row near your carries.
Maokai: Warmog's Armor, Gargoyle Stoneplate and Bramble Vest. Extra components can become Thief's Gloves on Kennen and Gnar.
