Play it when

You open AP with Invokers or Coven.
Nobody else is collecting Cassiopeia, Fiddlesticks or Rammus.
You have components for Hextech Gunblade and Archangel's Staff.

Stage 2
Open with any strong AP board, ideally Invokers, or lose streak with Coven. Leona, Ornn and Karma are good early units; give items to Ornn, since he stays in the final board.

Stage 3
If you are lose streaking with Coven, still try to kill a few units each fight to save HP. If you are win streaking, follow the normal curve – 6 at 3-2, 7 around 3-7 – and save gold. Aim for 4 Defenders by the end of the stage.

Stage 4
Roll on 7 for 2-star Cassiopeia and Fiddlesticks, then slow roll above 50 gold for the 3-stars: Cassiopeia, Fiddlesticks and Rammus. Play 6 Defender as soon as you can.

With the 3-stars done, level 8 for a second carry: Soraka or any 4- or 5-cost AP unit.

Why it works

Cassiopeia poisons her target and the nearest enemy that isn't poisoned yet, and her poisons stack, so her damage keeps climbing the longer a fight lasts. 6 Defender (Lillia, Ornn, Leona, Shen, Fiddlesticks, Rammus) gives the whole team 12 Armor and Magic Resist and the Defenders themselves 115, turning your front row into a wall that buys her that time. Fiddlesticks at 3 stars drains the 3 nearest enemies and lowers their Magic Resist, so the poison bites harder, and Rammus taunts enemies onto himself. Cassiopeia and Fiddlesticks activate Spellweaver for team Ability Power that grows each time they cast. Fiddlesticks also brings 1 Flora Fatalis (mana on takedowns); Soraka at level 8 makes it 2 and adds a heal for your lowest-Health ally.

When to pivot

With a Defender Emblem you can drop a cheap Defender such as Leona and put the emblem on Rengar. If you open Coven, cash out your Essence and transition into this comp. Alune is another option to cap the board late.
